The Education Foundation of Archbishop Holgate Hospital in Hemsworth is thrilled to announce that in 2019 they have been able to financially support local schools and students.
This year the charity has awarded grants to local schools totalling £40,000. The money was gifted to help improve curriculum areas, both inside school or in school grounds, and will help support and benefit children in their education. The grants were offered for a variety of causes included the purchase of a new learning library, musical instruments and ICT equipment.
In addition, the Trust has been able to offer substantial awards totally £90,000 over three years, to local students who are embarking on their University education. Born in Hemsworth in 1481, Robert Holgate was Archbishop of York 1545 to 1553 and decreed in his will of 1555 that Almshouses should be built to provide for persons aged 60 years or over, who are in need of financial assistance, and are resident in the area of benefit. Over time, the long established customs and day to day procedures have evolved to enable all who live at the Almshouses to benefit from its peace, tranquillity, Christian love and fellowship to ensure that residents live in harmony and safety. The Education Foundation of Archbishop Holgate runs along-side the main charity to promote the education of persons under the age of 25 who are in need of financial assistance and are resident in the area of benefit.
