At the APCM on 22 April 2018 it was announced that this year Roland Hawcroft was not accepting a nomination as Church Warden. We are immensely grateful for the diligent service he has given to the parish supported by Pat. Later on we shall need to find a way of showing our appreciation for such dedication and commitment.
Nominations were however received for Margaret Hyde and for Neil Singleton and therefore they were duly appointed.
“The time has arrived when I have decided to hang up the Church Warden’s wand and retire from office. I have served in the position of Church Warden since 1976 with a break between 1984 to 1990, so I think that adds up to around 36 years.
I very much appreciated the friendliness and encouragement which I received from the six Rectors whom I served. My thanks also go to my partners as Church Wardens: Geoff Rowbotham, Rob Hyde, Bob Green, Mike Thorley, Peter Mawtus (the only warden to be older than me!) and Margaret Hyde. I thank them all for their cooperation and friendship. We all worked together as a team for the good of St Helen’s Church.
I would also like to express my thanks to our verger Jean Jones for her ever willing assistance over the years, also for her supply of sweets: I trust that they won’t stop, Jean.
Finally to Neil I wish you all the best and I am sure you will prove to be an excellent Church Warden. You have a fine Rector and a caring partner in Margaret to work with and I am sure both will advice and encourage you in your early days. Good Luck!
It just leaves me to thank all the congregation since 1976 for your kindness, understanding, laughter and generosity during the years I spent as your Church Warden. Thanks everyone. Roland”
At the APCM Fr Robert said, “Clearly having a new Church Warden will be quite a change for the parish, as well as quite a change for both Roland and Neil. Please pray for us as we adjust. We thank Neil (and Mandy) for allowing himself to be nominated for this office.”
Margaret and Neil will be duly sworn in at the Archdeacon’s Visitation at Wakefield Cathedral on 24 May.
Neil can be contacted on 07957 933736 and Margaret continues to be contactable on 01977 611805.
